What was Sunday night dinner

We went out to one of our favorite places.. Trezo Vino... they specialize in "small plates" or dishes that are meant to be shared so you can order all kinds of things and enjoy them all. They also have a Sunday night special which is HALF price wine bottles so we got a $70 bottle of wine for $35!

Apologies for the kind of crappy photos, taken with the phone.

First course:
Wagyu beef (or American Kobe beef) carpaccio in a light vinaigrette, shaved aged Parmesan and a caper and garlic spread on the crostinis.

Second course:
Fois Gras in a warm pear and vanilla compote, served with fresh toast points

Third course:
Fresh crab spring rolls in sweet chili dipping sauce

Fourth course:

HOLYCRAP... Lobster Mac and Cheese.. WOW....Super creamy aged cheddar and huge chunks of sweet lobster... topped with bread crumbs and I think in the cheese we tasted jalepeno juice for a little "bite"....

Fifth course: Braised short ribs in a thick, rich blackberry sauce with  what they call "Terrorized carrots"... which were spicy grilled carrots in the same rich sauce.

And finally- the desert.... Trezo Towers which were two chocolate cages made of rich Belgian chocolate and filled with half white chocolate and half dark chocolate mousses, and topped with beautiful fresh berries......

Food coma followed shortly thereafter.

Cold and cloudy

Sunday.. just woke from a nap that lasted almost TWO hours! D and The Beast are still sleeping but he has an excuse since he was out late last night playing sax.. and The Beast, well her excuse is that D is still sleeping which surely means that its required of her too.

Dinner for one and a Beast last night was a simple pasta that I cranked out of the machine and a red sauce of nothing but hothouse and grape tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and basil, seasoned with a little sea salt. Yummy! Wine was Frei Brothers Pinot Noir which goes well with almost anything- slightly fruity with a taste of raspberry and a splash of vanilla. Not bad for under $20!

Best of Sunday political funnies

And just because its MY BLOG and I CAN POST WHAT I WANNA...

More Awkward Family Photos

Can you spot the issue?

Finally, a photo of girls in prom dresses holding chickens that makes total sense.

Clearly, all of the other props were occupied at this photo studio.

Submitted without comment.

Clearly, a win-win.

Something To Say?

Better late than never....

Thursday night dinner was cedar plank grilled Coho salmon and wild mushroom risotto. Even though the salmon was previously frozen, it was fantastic! I seasoned it with fresh garlic, thyme and basil and sprinkled a little lemon pepper seasoning on it. Right before taking it off the grill I topped it with a little lemon juice and butter. Yummmm!!
Risotto had white, crimini and baby portabella mushrooms and was deliciously creamy!
Wine was Toasted Head Chardonnay.

And last night.. since D was out playing sax, I had:

The Continuing Adventures in Nachos (part deux)

This time with chicken chili and black beans.... Nommmnom nom nommm...
The Beast was stealthy and quick enough to snag a single black bean that landed on the floor and she signaled her approval with a rather loud burp.

We were promised change and Id say that's exactly what we got.

Actual unemployment versus what The One said it would be without the Pork-u-ous and what his administration said it would be with the Pork-u-lous.

Yeah, I know I keep posting this one but REALLY.. its from the CBO! Its just the ugly truth about spending.

Unemployment.. which White House Press Secretary Gibbs said Friday was looking up!

Dow Jones.... interesting direction...

And the GDP growth... you dont need an economics degree to read this one.

All and all, its been a STELLAR 8 months of change!

VA argues that they don't have to send out military ballots in time for voting

Really? After all they do for us, now we want to make sure the men and women of our military who PROTECT AND DEFEND US AND OUR CONSTITUTION-  votes dont count because they lean Republican. (go figure)

If you want to be outraged, read this:

The Virginia State Board of Elections argued in their most recent filing that they have no legal obligation to send out military absentee ballots in a timely manner. Restated, the State of Virginia has argued in a federal court filing that they can legally send out absentee ballots to active duty soldiers the day before an election. Restated again, the Democratic Chairwoman of the Virginia State Board of Election (appointed by the Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine, in his capacity as Virginia Governor) Jean Cunningham just claimed a legal basis for massively raising the barrier to voting for soldiers at war.

Really. Read on for details.
Thanks for Redstate.com for the story

Something to keep an eye on

Im in no way a conspiracy theorist but think it should be noted and kept on the radar that Obama muscle man David Axlerod recently met with Roger Ailes (Fox News CEO)  to discuss the fact that Fox News is not only the highest rated news show with an audience twice and three times in some cases bigger than any other competitor, but to WHINE about the fact that Fox isn't kneeling at the alter of Obama. (helloooooo Glenn Beck!)

At a time of tension between their organizations, White House senior adviser David Axelrod met with Fox News chairman and chief executive officer Roger Ailes two weeks ago, sources tell POLITICO.

The two met privately in Manhattan during the president's visit to the United Nations.
The two discussed news coverage and the relationship between the organizations.
An FNC spokesperson tells POLITICO that Ailes and Axelrod had a "cordial conversation" over coffee while the president was in town.

In Axelrod's defense, so dominant is FNC these days that Red Eye's pulling more viewers in the 25-54 range at 3 a.m. than CNN is at 8 p.m. Which I guess means the White House is better off scheduling Hillary for an interview with Pinch, the New York Times marionette, than with Campbell Brown. More whining:

Though White House aides are hesitant to criticize the network on the record, their disdain for the programming–including Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck–is clearly evident. "They are the paid political programming for a party, and occasionally a couple of news stories break out in the midst of 23 hours and 45 minutes of political rantings and opinion," said one senior administration official. "Everything about it is one-sided political opinion directed at a base. Period."

Want to take bets on whether or not key Fox players change their tunes or even start singing a NEW song?  Ive said for a while now that Glenn Beck wont last long. Start the clock.

Im taking bets.. coins or smokes.... betters choice.

For Dark, who always hears the whisper, no matter how faint

"We die rich with lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we've entered and swum up like rivers. Fears we've hidden in. I want all this marked on my body. Where the real countries are. Not boundaries drawn on maps with the names of powerful men."
